Ready to Lead
Written by brianbolduc on August 30th, 2007Director Spadaccini recently wrote a letter to the editor that appeared in the Hartford Courant and the Journal Inquirer:

To the Editor:This is the time of the year when homeowners with mortgages really learn how much their property taxes increased. Because of rising property taxes and the effects of revaluation, I was just notified that the property tax escrow on my house will increase by nearly $50.00 per month. This is a stark reminder of just how important it is for our town’s leaders to be fiscally responsible and spend the taxpayers’ money wisely.
The Republican members of the Manchester Board of Directors proposed two minority budgets that reduced proposed spending by $2 million in the 2006/2007 fiscal year and $1.85 million in the 2007/2008 fiscal year. These budgets would have resulted in lower property taxes, but they were rejected by the majority.
In the next term of the Board of Directors, spending increases in the Town of Manchester’s operating budget should not exceed the cost of living and the Town Charter should be amended to require a voter referendum on any Town budget that increases property taxes by more than three percent. Property taxes simply cannot continue to grow at the current pace. It is time for a new team on the Board of Directors who will make fiscal responsibility a top priority and be good stewards of the Town.
Sincerely,
Louis A. Spadaccini
Minority Leader
Manchester Board of Directors
