Willing to Work with Everyone for a Better Manchester

The Hartford Courant has an article in their newspaper today, discussing the upcoming movement on a bipartisan committee to discuss school renovations.

Though concerned about the potential for rushing to judgement, Director Spadaccini is quoted highlighting his willingness to work with the Democrats on the Board of Directors to reach an agreeable solution to the situation.

“We’re not talking about just one elementary school,” he said. “I think the purpose is to come up with a unified approach to tackle eight schools, and that’s a pretty tall order.”
Spadaccini said, however, that he would cooperate with the more aggressive timeline favored by the Democrats, who want the committee to begin its work in October.

Further quoted, Spadaccini said this:

Spadaccini said that by waiting until November, the committee would avoid possible turnover problems if a member lost in the municipal election.

He also said he is wary of scheduling a spring referendum affecting only one elementary school because voter turnout would likely be low.

“I don’t think it matters much either way, but if [the Democrats] want to have a meeting in October, that’s fine,” he said. “I’m not going to argue about that.”

The Republican Directors, led by Spadaccini, have consistently shown their willingness to work with everyone in Manchester that has a desire to see the very best outcome manchesterneedsleaders1.giffor our Town. Indeed, they have worked to ensure that only the best of intentions are added to the process, starting with their election campaign, in which they have pledged to run a Clean Campaign that does not attack their political opponents personally in the hopes of gaining petty political advantages. It is only by putting down our partisan blinders and shouldering our responsibility to lead that problems are effectively tackled.

This year the Republican candidates for the Board of Directors have proposed something different to the citizens of Manchester - a Covenant with Manchester Taxpayers comprised of the three essential principles that will guide a Republican majority on the Board of Directors and the agenda items that they would begin to move on as soon as being sworn into office.  The principles are clearly stated: accountability, fiscal responsibility, and quality of life.  In the case of the schools, it seems obvious: politics should be kept away from our schools.  Leadership requires a willingness to move forward smartly and cooperatively.  And the Republicans are ready to do just that, both now and - if given the responsibility in November by the voters of Manchester - after the elections place a Republican majority on the Board of Directors.
