Board of Education Member Recognized for Innovative Idea

The Associated Press has picked up on an idea from Republican Board of Education Member Steve “Moose” Edwards this morning, running an article about his proposed ‘report card for parents’.

“Steve Edwards says he wants parents and guardians to be evaluated on their involvement in their children’s education. They would be graded on whether they ensure that their child gets to school on time, with homework completed and properly nourished and dressed for the weather.

Edwards says the program would not be aimed at punishing anybody.

Edwards is aware that a similar experiment failed when it was tried in Chicago seven years ago. But he says things that get measured get done and it’s worth the try by the Manchester school board.”
