Neighborhood Revitalization Zone Coming to Spruce Street

Last night, dozens of concerned citizens came together to discuss the Spruce Street Youth Center and related issues.  Mayor Lou Spadaccini came to the meeting and proposed a “Neighborhood Revitalization Zone” for the area, which was well covered in the Journal-Inquirer:

While this alone may make the creation of a revitalization zone attractive, Spadaccini told block watch members that law students from the University of Connecticut have offered free help in getting the legal designation that would give the zone “special powers.”"It basically empowers the neighborhood to cut through the red tape” of government, Spadaccini explained. “I think it would be a very positive step for the Spruce Street area, but it has to be endorsed by you.”

Local attorney David Blackwell offerred his help to facilitate the project.
