The Writing on the Wall

Several good letters to the editor in the Journal Inquirer today.  A brief rundown:

Mary Jane Pazda had a kindly letter in the paper today from Barbara Gawle.  “Pazda will bring a wealth of experience to the Board of Education. Her dedication to educational excellence is exemplary.”

Reverend Sal Mancini put in a letter in defense of Lou Spadaccini, the subject of numerous negative attack letters: “Spadaccini has always kept his promises to be more fiscally responsible. I think we need to elect a new majority that will pass his creative spending measures and fulfill what Spadaccini has pledged all along.”

websitespadaccini.gifGLASTONBURY - Director Lou Spadaccini, the Republican Leader on the Board of Directors, was honored on Thursday, September 27th, at the 4th Senatorial District Dinner, held in Glastonbury.  Recognized by the Manchester delegation as an outstanding volunteer of time and energy on behalf of the Republican cause in Manchester, Spadaccini was deferential in receiving the award.

Spadaccini spoke of the Manchester candidates’ desire to work hard and achieve a great victory on Election Day this year and of the Republican plan for renewed success.  “We need to pick up three seats and regain the majority this year,” said Spadaccini.  He spoke at length in regard to the Covenant with Manchester Taxpayers, the platform of the Republican candidates this year.  You can read more about the Covenant with Manchester Taxpayers here

Spadaccini was honored with a letter from Governor M. Jodi Rell and a certificate of recognition by the General Assembly.  The 4th Senatorial District Dinner is sponsored by Republican State Central Committee Members Mike Botelho, of Glastonbury, and Vincent Diana of Manchester.  The 4th Senatorial District is made up of Manchester, Glastonbury, Marlborough, and Bolton.

Ready to Lead

Director Spadaccini recently wrote a letter to the editor that appeared in the Hartford Courant and the Journal Inquirer:

Director Spadaccini

To the Editor:This is the time of the year when homeowners with mortgages really learn how much their property taxes increased.  Because of rising property taxes and the effects of revaluation, I was just notified that the property tax escrow on my house will increase by nearly $50.00 per month.  This is a stark reminder of just how important it is for our town’s leaders to be fiscally responsible and spend the taxpayers’ money wisely.

The Republican members of the Manchester Board of Directors proposed two minority budgets that reduced proposed spending by $2 million in the 2006/2007 fiscal year and $1.85 million in the 2007/2008 fiscal year.  These budgets would have resulted in lower property taxes, but they were rejected by the majority.

In the next term of the Board of Directors, spending increases in the Town of Manchester’s operating budget should not exceed the cost of living and the Town Charter should be amended to require a voter referendum on any Town budget that increases property taxes by more than three percent.  Property taxes simply cannot continue to grow at the current pace.  It is time for a new team on the Board of Directors who will make fiscal responsibility a top priority and be good stewards of the Town.

Sincerely,

Louis A. Spadaccini
Minority Leader
Manchester Board of Directors
