Journal Inquirer Highlights GOP TV Ads

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Kim Phillips of the Journal-Inquirer wrote a piece yesterday about the Republican candidates’ new television advertisements.  Straight to the highlights:

“We wanted to get as many people in town seeing our candidates and their message,” Republican Town Chairman Wallace Irish Jr. said Wednesday. “Many more people go to” cable television for news and information. ” We wanted to be part of that.”

“We’re very proud of it,” Irish said. “This is our main core of advertising. This is where we decided to spend our money.”

Manchester Republicans Break the Mold with TV Ads, Billboards

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

MANCHESTER - The Republican candidates running for the Manchester Board of Directors and Board of Education have broken new ground this week as the first-ever television ads of the campaign are up on the air on cable television stations in town.  The Hartford Courant wrote the article this morning taking note:

“They’ve put their faces on large billboards that were placed last weekend in 15 locations across town. And they’ve bought television advertising spots that will be broadcast on major cable channels in and around Manchester, which Cox Cable users will see between now and Election Day.”

“We’re doing it because this is a new Republican Party, and we’re trying to use different mediums to reach out to voters,” said director and Minority Leader Louis Spadaccini, referring to the three new candidates who joined the three incumbents running for the board of directors.

“We feel that we have a very dedicated team of candidates, and we are doing everything possible to get our message out to the independent and Democrat voters,” Irish said.

Republican Directors Hold Majority Accountable on Subcommittees

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

The Republican team for the Manchester Board of Directors are continuing to call out the heavily entrenched incumbents for their actions over the last two years.  The Board of Directors has a number of subcommittees that are supposed to meet on a variety of issues over the course of the two-year term.  The Democrat incumbents, however, have abused this system as the Democrat Chairmen of these committees have never called a meeting.  From the Journal-Inquirer:

“During the debate, Republican candidate Mark D. Tweedie called Democratic incumbent John D. Topping, who chairs the subcommittee, on his failure to convene a meeting at any time during the last two years.”

The incumbent Directors blamed the minority Republicans for not calling a meeting, because somehow being the leader of a subcommittee does not mean you have to actually lead.  Republican Leader Lou Spadaccini responded forcefully on the issue:

“Following the initial e-mail, Spadaccini replied to Topping, giving him four dates - Aug. 6, 7, 9, or 10 - that were good for him, e-mails show. Topping replied in a final e-mail that he’d be on vacation the third week of August, from Aug. 11 to 18, and suggested the group convene the week of Aug. 20 after he returned.”

Director John Topping went on vacation and failed to properly get the subcommittee meeting scheduled.  Inexplicably, he now blames Director Spadaccini for his oversight.

The Democrats have held the majority on the Board of Directors for 16 years.  They have become a heavily entrenched majority that is out of touch with reality.  The Republican candidates offer a positive, honest reform for Manchester in the Covenant with Manchester Taxpayers - accountability, fiscal responsibility, and a better quality of life.  This is the Covenant with Manchester Taxpayers and it is our blueprint for reform when the people of Manchester give us the opportunity to renew our Town.
